Salinity Converter – Convert SG (Specific Gravity) to PPT (Parts Per Thousand) and Back Again
Welcome to Simple Reefs. We are a brand new website designed to take the stress and expense out of starting your very own marine aquarium. In this section of the site, we feature handy calculators to help you along on your marine aquarium journey. Today’s calculator isn’t really a calculator, at all. It’s a Salinity Converter.
Table of Contents
Different hobbyists have their own preference when it comes to how they measure salinity. Most use either PPT (Parts Per Thousand) or SG (Specific Gravity). We talk all about what those different measurements mean in this article right here. Either way, when you begin your marine aquarium ownership journey, you will likely develop a preference.
Sometimes, however, that preference is thrown out of the window. Say, for example, when you grab a new salinity measuring device that only spits out PPT or when you are using a refractometer that uses SG. This can be a bit of a pain when your bucket of salt only mentions one measurement or the other.
With this calculator, you can convert Parts Per Thousand (PPT) to Specific Gravity (SG) and vice versa. It’s simple to use, just enter the figure you want to convert into the appropriate box and click the button. The results will be shown below. You may never need this converter but it’s a handy addition if you ever do. Be sure to bookmark this page for future reference. Thanks for reading!
